(and welcome, to me.! ) Well, I should agree that the best way to listen to some exemplary DTS-HD music tracks, is to get an equally exemplary Blu-ray release! And I can think of no other than Michael Jackson's 'This Is It'! Containing all of Michael's major hits in a truly breathtaking, ultra-dynamic surround mix, it would probably be the best you can have to give your system a thorough test.
We use it to test and demo our own THX certified loudspeakers. Just listen to the powerful dynamics of 'Thriller' and you will be amazed! And of course you can get the CD version too, which is also excellent in terms of audio quality. I am sure you can have the ultimate A-B test with these! Differences between DTS-HD and CD-audio are actually very obvious though, even without listening. We have to do with a studio master VS a limited sampling rate/bit depth material.
But it would be very interesting to know your comparison results, anyway! Originally Posted by Theresa If MJ had come out I would have had some respect for him. I'm not even sure if MJ was sure of his sexuality or not. And MJ's peak was during a period when 'coming out' could spell the end of oneks career. Certainly in the lat 90's or early millenium he cold've come out (if he was even aware of the need) but at that point his facade was such second nature, i dont think he would bave ever come out. Both labels publish other works using pureaudio technology (NOT to be confused with Universal's HFPA products!). Given that DTS-MA, Dolby TrueHD and LPCM all offer uncompressed multi-channel high sample and bit rate sound, it's not obvious why we consumers would care about listening to any particular recording in any one of these encodings, all else being equal, but I'd be interested to know. Just curious- how are you certain that he was gay? Personally, I think he was a-sexual.
I have a theory sparked by a book I read ( Provenance, IIRC)where the young star of a popular group was going to be castrated so his voice wouldn't change. I could see that happening to MJ; it would explain an awful lot of his subsequent 'eccentricities.' In the book, one of the females in the entourage was so outraged by the thought of the castration that she slept with the young boy to show him what he'd be missing out on; he ended up punching out the responsible party and never got the operation.

I finished it it in 3 days (700 pages, half of them are references and sources) Thanks- I will have to seek that out. In the meantime, can you fill us in on what it said about his sexuality? (Cliff Notes version, of course) I was never an MJ fan, being biased against pop in general (though I enjoyed the J5 when in my bubblegum youth). But when Palladia showed This Is It, I was blown away and got the BR and then later his iconic Thriller. Not my cup of tea, but there is no denying he was a talented artist and a great dancer.
The SQ of that BR is reference, imo. Those bass grooves are enough to keep me happy. Originally Posted by JimWinVA Thanks- I will have to seek that out. Not because it is hard to be brief on such an enormous topic.
Nor because it is hard for me because I am an MJ fan myself. Its because the book doesnt have an opinion itself. The author is a former editor for the Rolling Stone. Just the facts, what people said and when, etc. Endless depositions and discoveries. None of it is ever boring even for a fraction of a second, mind you. MJ's sexuality according to this book?
I think there are several sides. First, there is what his clearly insane family says - he was a knight in shining armor that donated to children charity in a given day more than all of us combined hope to make in a life time. Then there is another side - a supposed devious pedophile who is a thousand times worse than your garden variety one because a normal pefophile would lure a child in with a video game and some pop corn from a Blockbuster counter while Mr.
Jackson could give them. Well, the world. No child would say no and run to parents. I think we will never know the truth. You will sift through a hundred thousand pages of court documents and still be no closer to the truth. But what I tend to believe is the first testimony of Jordy Chandler, one of his victims.
There are some inconsistencies (Mr. Jackson's jonson, for example) but I believe Jordy's testimony because of who he is. Basically, the integrity of this individual after he has grown up and how he handled this legacy of shame.
Here is a man that was molested, earned millions of mortal enemies (not exaggerating!) before the age of ten, but managed to grow up into a fine young man who changed the world for the better. He is the total opposite of his molester, Michael Jackson. I have almost no doubt that Jordy Chandler told the truth. So, here are what I picked up. 1) Up till 'Off the Wall' Mr.
Jackson was the purest, most innocent person you would encounter. That didnt come from me.
Andy Warhol said that and he would know! 2) All of his demeanor (whispering in a Marilyn Monroe breathy voice) was an just act. He hated gays as much as he hated big male African Americans, although his security exclusively consisted of big burly black men (not gay of course!) 3) Although he wanted to project an image of womanizer, he got uncomfortable and terrified when things got far enough. He was very, very obsessed with his body, how bad it was. Once his brothers (dont remeber which) tried to force him to lose his virginity at a late age by locking him in a motel room with two hookers. He shouted passages from a motel bible at them as loud as he could for two hours.
The hookers were terrified. I am sure the left a scar on his psyche too. 4) Not only he meets some criteria of a pedofile, he is a classic example of one.
Sex is not the most important one. There are many small things that other people misinterpret or even worse - find amusing or sweet.
Such a person speaks of children as some angelic, heavenly creatures. He talks to children like they were adults, even if the child is four years old. He wants to replace natural parents except for the lewd part. He collects childrens toys, puts up a wallpaper that is appropriate for a newborn's room (ducks and rabbits on pink background, for example).
That is confirmed in the book. That mysterious hidden smaller-than-closet nursery scared the hell out of me. He keeps away from his own family except for one chosen female, who is usually the mother. He doesnt keep adult friends, but can maintain regular relationships with other people just fine. That said, he doesnt hang around if he doesnt need anything from adults. He finds them boring. When a platonic (at the time) relationship with a child reaches the point when he is ready to take it to the next level, he starts with an invariable 'wouldn't it be fantastic if were a family - you and me'?
Or 'would it be great if there was nobody else in the world except us two?' This is when a trap is open. The next stage is the 'can you keep a secret' and ' do you know what adults do when they really like each other' stage. 5) Sex is not the ultimate goal for them although he did cry and shout when it was withheld by a horrified child.
It is the means to completing him as a person. Nevertheless, the book describes oral sex but not yet anal - did not get there, Jordy's parents sensed something was wrong and removed him.
6) The book mentions that MJ probably has NEVER had full sex with any human being - adult or child, man or woman. As you can see it is hard to label him as straight, gay or even asexual. He was neither. Chilton described Dr.
Hannibal Lektor - 'we dont have a name for what he is'. Anyway, I am rambling. This is too much to cover in an AVS post (I can't believe I am writing it here to begin with!).
I wrote a review for this book. Man, was I blasted by the MJ fanatics. I have never seen such pure and unadulterated hate in my life. They would have torn me to pieces, if they could. Originally Posted by grigorianvlad Wow!

Not rambling at all- appreciate the effort. Very clearly explains what appears to be a case of a horror story in real life being stranger than fiction.
This is indeed a sad picture. Your parallel w/ Lektor seems so appropriate- the level of pathology is off the charts! My experience w/ pedophiles (I'm a SPED teacher who'd worked w/ many 'Emotionally Disturbed' students, as well as an in-home counselor, who once 2nd chaired a support group mandated by a county for all paroled sex-offenders) has shown consistently that they come by these behaviors honestly, i.e. They were the abused before being the abuser. And yes, sex is not the main goal; power is (IME).
They seem to seek the power they felt absent in their trauma. Also, they seem to be working out some type of family issue(s), as you alluded to w/ MJ. It's not universal, but it makes me wonder what twisted MJ.
It sounds like that was beyond the scope of the book; unless one of the family do a tell-all, we'll likely never know. I doubt if whatever happened to him is on the same magnitude of how twisted he became. I imagine how far-out he got is more related to the immense power he possessed as a star of such magnitude. Sorry to hear you got attacked for speaking an unpopular truth. Sucks to be the messenger, huh? I appreciate that you shared it here. Even though it's rather chilling, it sounds real.
Like just how ugly it can get kinda real. Why are we so fascinated w/ car-wrecks? We are forced to listen to whatever ever they produced, not what we want to hear. Boe got it right. Thanks - Mozart, Beethoven, Vivaldi, Bach, Albonini. George Winston, Schoenberg. A classic case of Jethro Tull would be nice. I am of the same mind. That is why remastering your own old CDs from stereo to full surround DTS-HD MA is fun.
Imagine you could remaster main vocals from 30 degrees to 20 (only come out of the center channel), moved annoying cymbal crashes artifacts from the rear channel to the front sides, etc. I can tell you that remastering stereo to DTS-HD MA is fun. I've rediscovered my favorite music again. SO may things in these old tracks I have not heard before, when they were plain boring stereo. I'd be interested to try a (which is ), as it's the only format I have yet to try and I have. The Eagles disc, Hell Freezes Over, pictured in your link, was a reference disc back in the day. It was used quite a bit to demo speakers at the chain shops in my area. The Donald Fagen Nightfly Trilogy box set is very good. Not as good as his DVD-A releases of the same material but a lot less dollar wise to acquire. The DTS Surround discs are the forgotten format when people talk about the surround sound music format dying. DVD-A and SACD were considered to be superior formats.
They were easier to play if you had a DTS capable dvd player and receiver. Originally Posted by AJCxZ0 You quoted me so I can't tell if you're offering this to me, mistaking my comment about DTS CDs, or, but a kind offer in any case.

You may try infuse, but you will need the paid version. You get a free trial period, though, if I am not mistaken. Otherwise, both iTunes and appleTV only support multichannel/surround sound from movie files, as far as I can tell.
So you'd need to remake them to movies, even if with blank picture, to be playable on aTV. Then you can ingest them as music videos and they will play in multichannel. DTS is also not supported on Apple platforms, so that needs either Plex/Infuse or conversion to Dolby Digital.
